Mid-Century Grand Haven Chair by Jack Van Der Molen for Jamestown Oak Open Desk/Armchair

the framed incurved upholstered back above a loose cushion seat flanked by graceful sling-form arms; all raised on tapering turned supports ending in ebonized feet; good vintage condition; nice warm patina to professionally refinished surface; newly upholstered

Jack van der Molen was an award-winning American designer of the mid-20th century. He was born in 1922 and is a man of many accomplishments and talents. He was awarded five Battle Stars for his actions during WWII, was a gifted golfer, and an excellent watercolorist with work in private and commercial collections. He was educated at Kendall School Design in Grand Rapids, MI. His furniture design work successfully combines organic details with clean lines. He designed several lines of furniture for Jamestown Lounge Co. including “Americana Casual” winning the coveted House Beautiful Magazine “Best Chair of the Year” award for his “Grand Haven” chair in 1959. His furniture designs are still highly celebrated and sought after today.
