Pair of Eric Norstad Signed 1960's Studio Pottery Stoneware Lamps

1960's

each signed and hand-thrown jar-form pot decorated with abstract foliate fronds; all glazed in earth tone colors of russet, brown and ochre; excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks; rewired; Eric Norstad (1924-2013) was an American potter and architect who worked primarily on the west coast of the United States. Norstad graduated from the University of Oregon with a degree in architecture with a minor in ceramics. In 1957 he was the recipient of The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation grant, allowing him to set up a pottery operation in his home. In 1960 Norstad was asked to join the architectural firm of Callister and Payne in Tiburon, California. In 1962, he left his job as an architect, and opened Norstad Pottery. He credits much of his success to good timing -  the 1960’s American craft movement was beginning to thrive. In 1975, Norstad Pottery moved to a 3,000 square foot studio in Sausalito, California later opening a store in Carmel.
