Pair G-Plan 1950s Burl Amboyna Square Coffee Tables with Bronze Glass Inserts

Each having a square-form top with bronze shaded glass inserts covering a mahogany-lined open well; all raised on block plinths; veneered overall in a warmly patinated and well-figured amboyna burl, one of the most expensive and sought-after of all burls; G-Plan was founded  by Ebenezer Gomme, an extraordinary visionary for British furniture design. In response to the deficit of attractive and well made furniture after WW II, Gomme pioneered a range of furniture which grew to become one of Britain’s most iconic brands. As the popularity of Scandinavian furniture grew in the 1960s, G-Plan made a smart move and pursued a collaboration with budding Danish designer and architect Ib Kofod Larsen; later glass plates; professionally refinished with minor shrinkage
