Rock crystal is the purest variety of Quartz and is transparent and colorless. Its name derives from the Greek term krustallos meaning 'ice' and is the sister gemstone to colorful varieties of quartz, such as amethyst and citrine.

super good quality with elegant shape and small size, the serpentine parquetry top above a bombé body fitted with 2 oak-lined drawers all raised on splayed legs ending in hoof feet; maker's label 'Auffray & Co. NYC" Auffray's & Co. originated in France in the early 1800's. It established a NYC workroom and showroom on 3rd Avenue in 1941. It later spent 40 years on 56th Street and now resides  200 Lexington Avenue in the Design Building. Auffray produced superb quality French reproduction furniture for high-end department stores such as Gimbels and B.

the two-wheeled drinks trolley with turned handle joining a rectangular top within an openwork gallery all raised on wicker-wrapped supports joining a lower shelf; The Heywood Furniture Co. began in 1826 making wicker and rattan furniture. In 1897, the company merged with a competitor, Wakefield Rattan Co., to form the Heywood-Wakefield Co. Heywood-Wakefield’s iconic Streamline Modern furniture line was introduced at the 1933 Century of Progress International Exposition in Chicago. The soft-curved, light-colored look ushered in an age of furniture called midcentury modern.

the circular tabouret with new decking above a rope-twist gilwood frame with cabriole supports with knotted feet all joined by an x-form stretcher centering a robust central knot; gilding refreshed; nice patina with overall even rubbing; structurally sound frame; needing upholstered seat.

Seat furniture carved in this manner is generally associated with the Parisian upholsterer A.M.E. Fournier, who supplied at least one carved rope stool to the Musée National du Château de Compiègne.
